A COMMISSIONED PUBLIC ART EXHIBIT IN DOWNTOWN BLUE SPRINGS, MO
The latest project initiated by Downtown Alive to help keep downtown Blue Springs flourishing is CELEBRATE BLUE SPRINGS – CATS ON MAIN public art exhibit. Eight local artists have been commissioned to create a design and paint it on one of eight life-size cat molds using the Blue Springs High School Wildcat and Blue Springs South High School Jaguar mascots as the shape for the Cats. Each stand-alone Cat will be displayed along the north and south sides of Main Street between 7 Highway and 15th Street through October 2023.
The CATS ON MAIN vision came about in an effort to complement the existing public art located within the own District and to build on the connection between Downtown, the Blue Springs School District, and the community. This project will serve as an enticement to bring residents and visitors to the district to view the ‘CATS’ on both sides of Main Street, as well as promote visibility and walkability to Downtown Blue Springs. Visitors will be able to “vote” on their favorite Cat using a QR Code that will be attached at the base of each Cat.
After the display period is over, the Cats will be auctioned off in a public event with a date TBD. This project is funded in its entirety by private donations. Proceeds from the auction will benefit future projects in the Downtown District.
